Install sigint.news as an app
sigint.news installs straight to your home screen — no App Store, no Google Play, no download, and no account. It’s a Progressive Web App: two taps in your browser give you a real app icon, and the page itself becomes the app. Pick your device below.
iPhone & iPad — Safari
The “Add to Home Screen” option lives in the Share menu. Safari is the most reliable; recent iOS versions (16.4 and later) also offer it in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
- Open sigint.news in Safari.
- Tap the Share button — the square with an upward arrow.
- Scroll down the share sheet and tap “Add to Home Screen”.
- Tap “Add”. The sigint icon appears on your home screen and opens full-screen, without the Safari toolbars.
Android — Chrome
- Open sigint.news in Chrome.
- Tap the “Install app” prompt if it appears, or open the ⋮ menu in the top-right.
- Choose “Install app” (or “Add to Home screen”).
- Tap “Install”. sigint installs like a native app, with its own icon in your app drawer and recents.
Desktop — Chrome or Edge
- Open sigint.news in Chrome or Edge.
- Click the install icon in the address bar — a monitor with a downward arrow — or open the ⋮ menu.
- Choose “Install sigint.news…” and confirm.
- sigint opens in its own window and gets a Start Menu, Dock, or Launchpad entry.
What you get
- A home-screen icon that opens the briefing full-screen, without browser toolbars.
- Offline reading of the last edition you opened, so the app still shows you something on a dead connection.
- Always up to date — it shares one codebase with the website, so there’s never an app update to install.

Common questions
Is sigint.news in the App Store or Google Play?+
No, and it doesn’t need to be. sigint.news is a Progressive Web App (PWA): you install it straight from the browser in a couple of taps, with no app store, no download, and no account. It updates itself whenever you open it, so there is never an update to install.
Does the app work offline?+
Partly, by design. Once you have opened it online, the app shell and the last briefing you read are cached, so launching it offline shows you the most recent edition. Fetching a fresh briefing still needs a connection — when you are back online it updates automatically.
Will I get push notifications?+
Not yet. Installing the app today gives you a home-screen icon, full-screen launch, and offline reading. Push notifications for critical, fast-breaking stories are planned. In the meantime the email digest is the way to be alerted without opening the page.
How is this different from a native app?+
For a read-it-and-go briefing, it isn’t — you get the same home-screen icon and full-screen experience without a separate download or store review. A PWA is one codebase shared with the website, so the installed app and sigint.news are always exactly in sync.
How do I remove it?+
Exactly like any other app: press and hold the icon and choose Remove or Uninstall on a phone, or right-click the app and uninstall on desktop. Nothing is left behind, and you can reinstall any time from the browser.
